On Saturday morning, I met up with 49 other shooters in the Dana Point Harbor for the i heart faces photo walk. We had typical June Gloom, which for shooting, worked out perfectly! We had men and women from So Cal, but we also had some visitors who just happened to be in town for the weekend…but that’s okay because we made them honorary Californians for the weekend!
For two hours, we shot around the Ocean Institute and along the harbor before ending at Jon’s Fish House for a tasty lunch. It was wonderful making in life friendships with online friends! Thanks SO MUCH to all of our recipients and to Angie and Amy for organizing this really fun event. I’d also like to thank Susan Keller, my coleader. I’m pretty sure that she and I both slept really well that night because after the photo walk, we both shot weddings!
Of course, we ran down to the beach for a few shots…this IS Orange County!

I’d like to subtitle the photo walk as BOOYTFEST 2010. I took lots of action shots of the photo walk and when I got home I realized that I had roughly 50 shots of other peoples’ butts. OOPS!
Someone ditched these shoes on the beach…I wanted to steal them…but I digress.
I mentioned June Gloom earlier. If you’re not from CA and have never heard this phrase before, it’s common knowledge in coastal communities that the month of June is terrible overcast. It usually burns off in the late afternoon, but yep, June looks like this:
Susan Keller will do anything for a good fish eye shot!
We were taking a group shot up on the jetty and a fisherman behind us pulled up the scariest looking fish I’ve ever seen…it was ferocious! Looked like it had HUGE teeth.
I found my future job!
And shot some pretty portraits!
This cutie came to So Cal from Georgia for the photo walk…just kidding, she came to run the San Diego Marathon. We were glad to have her in So Cal because we obviously needed someone to crawl up into this window!
Angry Julie is SO not angry!
And she LOVES to model for huge groups of photogs!
I found the perfect boat for Bianca…I’m just sayin’.
And emphasized getting shots with visual interest like leading lines:

I also shared the secret to perfect white balance…the ExpoDisc. Just be careful when wearing it around your neck all day on a sunny day or else you’ll end up with a funky tan line like I did!
Once again, thanks to everyone who came out and spent their Saturday morning with us! i heart faces is an online community for photographers and this weekend, we made it an in-person community! What a wonderful thing!

Looks like you guys had a great time. I love the shot of the shoes!
And thanks, now another thing to add to my wish list. Just great.
I’m laughing at the butt shots! ha! Thanks so much for leading the OC walk. Looks like you had a wonderful group. I’m jealous that you were wearing jackets!! We were sweating to death in Dallas at 9 am!
The jackets came off very quickly…we even had a little humidity! June Gloom is deceptive as it just LOOKS chilly. : ) Regardless, we had a fun day!!!
My fearless leader. You have inspired me to learn my camera. Thanks for taking that fab photo of me. I was a bit of a camera whore, wasn’t I?
Yes, as your friend and personal paparazzi, it is my mission in life to force you to shoot manual! XOXO
Woman! When do you sleep?! What DON’T you do? Yowzers.
Anyway, love the picture. I’m officially annoyed with that phrase, but find it hilarious that you care to annoy me even more. We’re meant to be friends.
You love it! ; )
What awesome shots from the walk – thanks so much for being one of our fearless leaders!!
Love the booty shot…I got a ton of those too. Hee!
Love them. Thanks again for a wonderful morning, it sure was fun. Hope we can do it again one day.
Great pics, great company, great walk!!!
And dang, now I know why I’ve been limping the last couple days. WHY am I never aware of assuming contortionist squat positions when I’m taking pictures?!?
Butts. hehe.
Great shots! I would love to know where Angry Julie purchased her gorgeous blue flower headband (or is that a clip?). Love your blog!
Cham,
I got my headband here!
