MY SWEET MOMMY

I’ll be writing more about our Colorado trip this week, but I have to give a shoutout to my sweet mom. She went out of her way to make this a special week for the whole family.

Not only did she cool a Thanksgiving meal up in the mountains, but she brought a Christmas tree (because we did Christmas with my brother and his family), crafts for the kids (my niece called them “craps”), took us for walks down the main street to show us all the cute shops she’d spied before we arrived, watched the kids while we “big kids” went out for a drink at night, and essentially made our vacation feel like “home.”

Yesterday morning, we piled into the car and drove down to the Broadmoor for lunch. It’s one of her favorite places in CO and she wanted to share that experience with us. It was lovely and all decorated for Christmas already. I snapped this pic, which I think captures her beauty and sweet spirit (and love for the holiday season) and wanted to share it.

I also want to say thanks to my mom for everything she did to make this vacation a great one! Mom, I am so thankful for you and life wouldn’t be the same if I belonged to anyone else. I love ya!

I’m sharing this pic at Sweet Shot Tuesday. Go on over there and check out more sweet shots!

BODY IMAGE AND MICHAEL FRANTI

Spending Thanksgiving in CO gave me a great opportunity to hang out with my family, enjoy the mountains, and play with the world’s cutest niece and nephew.

But I also had the opportunity to hang out with my sweet SIL. She invited me to go to a Michael Franti concert and even though I didn’t know much about him, I was excited to hang out with her.

We had an INCREDIBLE time at the concert and Michael Franti puts on an awesome show. But I really enjoyed listening to his lyrics. He sings from the heart about love, enjoying other cultures, and fighting to end war and hate and discrimination.

I loved his song “Shake It (You the One for Me)” and feel like we need more artists to sing this way.

You got a little broken nail, hair outta place, a little bit of extra middle right around the waist.
But all of them things I never ever hesitate, because the thing about you baby is the smile on your face.

I heard recently (on the Today Show, I think) that 80% of 5 year olds think they need to go on a diet. Our culture tells us that beauty comes from being thin and that happiness comes from beauty. We’ve all heard about the controversy surrounding the Marie Claire article and see sickly thin models and actresses everywhere. But I LOVED this song and hope that more people listen to the lyrics and that they leave a lasting impression.

Because our daughters, sisters, and mothers need to be reminded that beauty comes from confidence and radiates through a smile!

Enjoy!

THE PERFECT HOLIDAY PLAYLIST

Now that the holiday season is upon us, I’m worried that certain things will fall through the cracks, or that I’ll wait until the last minute and go half out.

I LOVE to entertain and what better time than the holidays to go balls to the walls and throw parties left and right? Well, okay, I don’t throw THAT many parties, but I do host a few GTGs. And, in spite of my small home, I buy a huge Christmas tree and fill the place with friends and family like sardines.

One goal I have this year is to put together the perfect holiday playlist and I need your help! Please leave a comment and share your favorite holiday party tunes…or I might be forced to play this on repeat!
