I’ve been thinking about creating a 35 by 35 list for some time and as I’ve got less than 6 months to go, I finally decided to pull the trigger. With a looming deadline, it will give me that extra push to accomplish some random goals…and yes, some of them will be quite random…like #1.
#1 – DYE MY OWN HAIR
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had painfully thin hair. As a child, I had overprocessed permed hair and occasionally it would fall out in clumps. As a teenager, I began to get it highlighted in order to remain blond like I’d always been. Yes, I was blond. In my early 20s, I decided to go chocolate brown, just for giggles, and so many people commented on it, that I realized blond hair wasn’t doing me any favors…and I’ve been really happy as a brunette ever since.
Not long after I started going brown, I started to notice something new, too…GREY FLIPPIN HAIRS. Yep, I went grey in my early 20s. Now I’ve got such a problem that I get my hair dyed every 6 weeks…and that can be expensive! I finally stopped getting a two process color and now just get a permanent all over color.
While I’ve lessoned my costs, my hair process is still pricey. I’ve been thinking about dying my own hair and know many people who do it, but my thin hair scares me. What if I make a mistake and all my hair falls out??? With that said, it’s time to “woman up” and give it a shot.
Do any of you dye your own hair??? Have any tips or recommendations???
So, as you can see, some of my goals will be silly and some will be more serious. Thanks for sticking by me, in spite of my kookiness!

My hair is about 1 or 2 shades south of pure black. So, my gray shines like a beacon. I try to get it done professionally about twice a year and then supplement with the at-home job. I can’t recall the brand I use but it says it matches ANY DARK BROWN.
My hair does fall out in the shower…but not from the dye (sh*t, could it be the dye?!?!).
Do it! I don’t think you need to worry.
My friend dyes my hair… we just go to a beauty supply, ask the manager what color and developer to get, and BAM! my hair is done with professional color for $10
Now I just pay for haircuts
I dye my own hair for the last 15 years and I used all the brands, now I am using loreal superior preference because I fell cover better my grays, the box cost abouth $ 8.00 and I always have a $ 2.00 coupon, what is better than a $ 6.00 dye job?
I’m excited to see your whole list! I haven’t dyed my hair in a long time because I’m too cheap (and also, lazy) but I used to use the semipermanent dyes for fun to try out different shades. It’s not hard at all and most dyes seem user-friendly.
Easy peasy…don’t tell me you’ve forgotten your favorite chicky was a hairstylist in her past life, did you?
You gotta try the new hair color FOAM! I have tried a couple of different ones (actually my daughter tried it on me), but I was happy with the resultes – at least for 6-8 weeks or 32 shampoos!
