RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES

About two months ago, I was walking up the walkway to my front door, when I realized that at some point during the day, I’d lost an earring. I was disappointed, not because they were super special, but because I’d had the earrings for years and they seemed to go with everything. I’d lost an earring once before and both times, the culprit was the collar of my shirt bumping it out of my ear without me noticing.

Fast forward until last night, as I was walking up to the front door again, and rather than fumbling with my keys, I looked at some of the leaves on the ground. And just then, I realized that in the crack in the sidewalk was my lost earring right in front of my eyes.

I’ve been having a hard time with work lately. I’m not feeling fulfilled any longer and I yearn for a change, but know it’s pretty unrealistic. My boss has a challenging personality and the work is demanding. I’ve never had a “9 to 5″ job, and lately, I’ve had a ton of meetings that having me coming and going morning, noon,  and night. I’ve been playing in a pity party of 1.

Yesterday, in a moment of ah ha, I realized that I haven’t really gone to prayer lately about my desire for Mr. Right or frankly, my job situation. Right then and there, I prayed for my future husband and that I would be “rescued” from my work situation and also that my attitude about my job would change. I’ve been complaining in my mind for weeks and yet, hadn’t even thought to turn to the Lord.

So many times, the answers are right in front of our faces and yet, we can’t see them because we are too busy, trying to manage EVERYTHING, or just haven’t been paying attention. Sometimes, all we have to do is open our eyes and look; the answers we are seeking are probably right in front of our eyes…kinda like that earring.

  1. I am glad you found your earring! It does seem to be all about awareness of your surroundings, real awareness, DETAILED awareness, doesn’t it. And it is also all about doing things differently. Different meetings, different groups of friends, different locations.

  2. Jennylee says:

this week in Bible study we were talking about dissatisfaction as it relates to our relationship with God. We agreed that when we’re dissatisfied, it’s a symptom that our focus is on ourselves rather than The Lord and what he’s teaching us. I agree sometimes the answer is right in front of our eyes, but we need God to give us eyes to see. I know in my personal struggles the past year, the scripture I hold on to is 1 Thessalonians 5:16-17…it’s a really tough one, but so good to help me refocus on God; maybe it will help you: “Rejoice always. Pray without ceasing. In all things, give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

I find myself doing the same thing! Running around in my head, keeping everything up there, and forgetting to talk to God. Sometimes the smallest reminders are the best, just like your earring. Keep your chin up and keep talking to God, I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Ashley says:

You are so right. Sometimes Heavenly Father wants to give us certain things and they’re only dependent upon our asking for them. Even if the answer comes in the form of being given more patience until the time is right. I know that feeling all too well. Hang in there, keep praying for the things you want, and they’ll come when the time is right. I love ya, JJ!

  5. Leigh says:

Oh, girl, I can relate. Glad you found your earring and praying that other answers/direction will come soon.

  6. Love ya, JJ! I hope that soon you’ll have everything you’ve ever wanted. Of anyone I know, you deserve it.
