CHILI COOKOFF: THROWDOWN #4

So, this weekend, my band of kooky friends gathered for the latest installment in the throwdown series. Because it’s finally feeling like fall (not really), the host and hostess thought chili would be a hit…and it was!

I previously competed in two throwdowns, with a lobster macaroni and a fabulous burger…but they didn’t win and I never understood why. A friend pointed out to me that both entries were more on the “gourmet” side and that the winners in both of those competitions were pretty straightforward. So this time, I was bound and determined to go mainstream.

So, I went as mainstream as possible…middle America if you will.

I made Pioneer Woman’s Frito Pie!

Soooooo delicious. My house smelled amazing all weekend, my chili was yummy, and there were a ton of funny comments about people not having had frito pies since childhood.

No, I didn’t win; I came in somewhere in the middle again. BUT, at the end of the night, my pot was almost empty!!!

Two more pots were added to this table before the end of the night. We had about 11 people there and 7 entries. We had spicy, short rib chili over polenta, a Mexican white bean chili, all meat, no meat, and more. It was really a fun, and tasty, night!!!

Do you make chili? If so, what’s your secret ingredient???

I haven’t tried the PW’s recipe yet, I have the cook book though. Sounds delicious!!

  2. Did you guys also serve Beano or Pepto along side all that chili? :)

  3. Leigh says:

My chili doesn’t have any secret ingredients necessarily but it is served with doughnuts (preferably Krispy Kreme original glazed). A friend’s family turned me on to that particular combination several years ago. Spicy and sweet: a perfect pair.

  4. My husband makes filet mignon chili. It is ridiculous! He wins every contest :)

I simply wished to say thanks again. I’m not certain the things I would’ve taken care of without the actual ideas documented by you relating to that problem. Certainly was a very frightening scenario in my position, however , considering your well-written tactic you resolved that made me to cry with joy. I am grateful for this help as well as believe you know what an amazing job your are providing training most people using your website. Most probably you’ve never come across any of us.
