My birthday is a month from today and there’s no way in hell that I’m going to meet my goal and be down 10 lbs.
I’ve worked my tail off at the gym for the last two months. I’ve turned 7 lbs of fat into lean muscle. I’m seeing some real changes in my body and I’m THRILLED! I can even do unassisted push ups for the FIRST TIME in my life (well, on my knees at a slight angle…hey, I have little chicken wings and you’ve got to start somewhere!)!!!
But I’ve let myself down when it comes to eating.
There always seems to be a special occasion, wHine Club meetings, a family dinner at a nice restaurant, a throwdown with friends, a trip to Seattle to see the Gentleman Caller (or cooking for him when he’s here). Having had some serious success on WW years ago, I KNOW I have to be more in control of my choices and I’ve figured that all the working out would take care of me.
But I was wrong.
80% of weight loss is determined by food choices. Can you believe that?! All my crazy working out with my trainer, cardio on my own, and even starting to jog, hasn’t made much of a difference. Sure, my body is feeling better and is starting to look better and more toned, but I’ve still got a gut and butt.
This month, I’ve got a wHine Club meeting, a wedding, a GNO, a throwdown (Chili!), oh, and let’s not forget FREAKING HALLOWEEN! This is go time and I’m pretty sure that I’m about to turn myself into Captain No Fun so I can at least be halfway to my goal…giving up is not an option!
What are your biggest food struggles and how do you overcome them?

Food. And when I overcome it I’ll let you know how I did it. Because I seriously love food. Not junk or gross food – but luxurious meals (french! italian! polish!) that are homemade and subsequently doused in butter and wine and cheese – and I will never substitute PAM for a stick of butter. The butter stays.
I love food, too! That’s what makes this so challenging!!!
I agree with you, losing weigh is about what you put in your mouth and not exercise. There’s a reason they say dieting makes you look good with your clothes on and exercise makes you look good naked. haha. I can’t think of a better way to put it. And seriously there’s a reason there are so many people out there that are overweight. It’s HARD work to lose and maintain a healthy weight these days. Good luck! You can do it I’m sure!
I love that line!
“dieting makes you look good with your clothes on and exercise makes you look good naked”
Carbs. They are my bitch. I did South Beach Phase 1 and did really well. actually started to notice a change in my muffin top. But then that week prior to Aunt Flo, I would kill for a simple carbohydrate. I ate 4 cupcakes in a row yesterday. FOUR. 4.
I can only imagine the gasps…..
oh, that is NO laughing matter!!! hang in there!!!
I was doing really well following SparkPeople.com and then all the STUFF hit……..haven’t done nearly as well. It’s so hard, isn’t it, and part of it is a mental thing, that we MUST be prepared…I so often am not. Hang in there, you can do this!
Suzanne
Being prepared is what it’s all about, huh?! I’m going to dinner tonight with my family and I seriously have planned everything to eat today with that in mind!!!
I’ve heard of SparkPeople…I think it’s similar to the WW app!
Ugh.
This is SO not what I wanted to read today . . . but, something I so needed to read.
For reals.
I need to get serious about losing these last thirty pounds. I’ve been coasting for awhile now – just enjoying myself.
I exercise six days a week, but eat fairly liberally. And drink fairly liberally. ::cough::
I’m getting back on the WW bandwagon. I opened my app back up on my phone this morning after reading this post.
We’re in the same boat. I ALMOST gave up vino for the month…but then realized I wasn’t really willing to give that up. It’s such a fun part of my social life. BUT, I will be more prepared and more regulated at all my upcoming events, so I don’t go off the deep end and then end up just blowing off all my hard work!
Let’s hold each other accountable, mkay friend?!
After years of yo-yo dieting & weight struggles, I finally did something crazy. I stopped watching what I ate. I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but when I denied myself certain foods (carbs, sugar, etc.), I found I craved them all the more & then would over-indulge when “cheating” on them. Letting go of the endless cycle of dieting allowed my body to regulate itself and I lost weight without even trying! Of course, I still try to exercise 3-5 days a week, but I’ve found that I can eat pasta or brownies without going overboard because I am not mentally thinking, “this is the last time I can have this for ___ weeks.”
I totally get what you’re saying!!! I just need a smidge more discipline in my life right now. : ) And frankly, my goal isn’t that crazy and I know that once I just create a few healthy habits I’ll keep them up! But it’s true that we crave the things we don’t allow ourselves to have. I knew that if I gave up wine, I’d go bonkers and drink a whole bottle at once. Ha!
The other interesting thing is that my 35 year old body isn’t responding as well as my 27 year old body did the last time I tried to lose weight. Grrrrr!
I love bread, cheese and wine too much! the end. Miss you!!! Gentleman Caller?
My weakness is chocolate. seems I can’t go a day without it. Best way not to eat it is not to have it in the house but then I have been known to drive to the store late at night to get my fix…lol
