WASHED OUT

As a photographer, I often encourage my clients to bring along their makeup to a shoot, because they never will have enough on to really translate well on camera. They scoff and say they don’t want to look too “made up” or different from their usual look. I assure them that’s not the intent, but rather that a little extra won’t look ghoulish on camera!

Personally, I’m a pretty natural makeup wearer. In fact, I really don’t like to even feel makeup on my face…and don’t event get me started on moisturizers. I swear the makeup counter lady runs screaming when I walk up. Thankfully, I’ve finally found the skincare recipe that works for me.

However, I have been looking at the pictures from Blog Sugar (because Ruthanne did such a stinkin good job), and have noticed that MY makeup doesn’t translate on camera at all. Which makes me wonder if it translates in person…

My personal belief on makeup is that it should enhance beauty, not alter the way a person looks. While I respect the art of some of those ladies (or men) at the makeup counter, I would never want to change the arch of my eyebrows with paint or give myself cat eyes on a daily basis. However, I beginning to think I could go a little bolder on my color choices so that my features pop!

In this pic below that I LOVE, I can’t help but think that I look slightly washed out. My intent that morning was to do a little more than I usually do, but gosh, when I see this photo, I don’t see it!!!

What is your advice or personally philosophy on makeup???

  1. I think you look beautiful just like you are in the photo! I tend to feel like I’m really putting makeup on and not really look like I have much on in photos. I have tried a darker lipstick in the past and that seemed to brighten up my look a bit.

  2. I agree – natural. I rarely wear makeup because it doesn’t feel good the whole day on my face, but feel like at this age I should be wearing makeup to look more presentable and less scary. I like moisturizers unless they are perfumy. As for the camera I have noticed powder is better than oily (shine) and well done eyes. I should wear lipstick but always feel like a four year old playing dress up when ever I put it on. BTW you look great in the photo (shut up already) and you looked fabulous in person -so glad to meet you in real life!!!
