In Sweden*, I noticed that there were people on bicycles EVERYWHERE. This small town square was overrun with bike parking. In talking with my aunt, it sounds like the pedestrian lifestyle and cycling is the preferred method of getting around town.
A couple of days later, my sister and I commented on the fact that we hadn’t seen a single chubster ANYWHERE. Well, we may have seen one, but I’m sure it was another American. ; )
The Swedes eat very healthily, make activity a part of their daily lives, and also exercise. And I was inspired.
My aunt told me that she typically bikes for groceries, so I decided that when I got home, I’d start biking for groceries on the weekends, too!
Last week, I bought a basket for my bike and shook the cobwebs off my backpack. Yesterday, I filled the tires with air and headed out.
I got my weekly allotment of groceries, squeezed in a little fun exercise, and spent time in the gorgeous outdoors – and I loved the experience! Guess I’m Swedish in more ways than one!
*still working on my Sweden recap!

I did that when I lived in the suburbs of Milwaukee WI. LOVED IT. In the winter I had to walk, and I had a little pushable basket to carry things home in, but in the summer it was me and my bike and a milk crate I held on the bike with a bungy cord. So much fun. Enjoy it!
I can’t imagine doing it in the winter!!! You are a rockstar!
i thought for sure that * was going to lead to: “*expect all my posts to start with “In Sweden,” for a while . . . or forever”
love!
I think people are totally sick of my Sweden posts. Ha!
Where is your bell (aka foghorn) for those annoying motorists?!?! You go girl!
Ooooh, I TOTALLY need one!!!
