How Is It Already Summer?!

It's hard to believe how fast time flies. Just yesterday, I was snowboarding in the mountains and now I'm prepping for a family trip to Hawaii (shameless brag alert)! I remember the summers of my youth...the excitement, the anticipation, the long days in the sun. If I can capture just a tiny sliver of that, I'll be one happy girl!

THE CRAFT CABINET

On Friday evening, I attended the first ever Craft Cabinet, which was hosted by the incredibly lovely and gracious Andrea (Four Flights of Fancy and For the Love Of) and Jules (Pancakes & French Fries).

To be quite honest, I’m kinda surprised I decided to go. My mother, the queen of all crafts, gave all the crafty genes to my sister. I got the wine drinking genes – WOOT.

In spite of my initial reservations, I knew these girls would throw an awesome event…and to be honest, it was on my way home and I was feeling social. ; )

In a horrified last minute dash to Michaels, I grabbed a few things for making my “craft.” I couldn’t help but laugh at myself as I was checking out.

WAY TO PREPARE, JJ!

When I arrived at Salvage Life, seriously, the cutest vintage store in the Bixby Knolls area of Long Beach, I had a hard time not smiling from ear to ear. The shop was stinking gorgeous, the decor was perfect, and Jules and Andrea had craft stations with all sorts of supplies ready to go!

I don’t have photos of the crafting in progress. Naturally, I enjoyed some wine (no Rachel, I did not drink it all!), but it was also hot and my insecurities were on overdrive! Some women whipped out cross stitch, sewing projects, or vintage family photos they were collaging. THANK GOD, I was sitting next to a new pal, TEACHING IN HEELS. She and I were rocking the remedial craft table…she threw glitter on things and I stickered stuff.

With that said, my sticker project turned out pretty dang cute, if I do say so myself!

Earlier that day, I realized I’d run out of stationary…so I decided to whip some up. So, what do you think? Did I pass crafting 101???

I just want to thank Andrea and Jules for orchestrating a really fun night. I look forward to joining in the fun at Craft Cabinet 2.0…and I promise, no, SWEAR, to bring my crafting A game!!! I also promise that my eyeballs will be healed enough to take a proper photo of you guys that is just perhaps a teeny bit in focus and has you all looking at the camera.

  1. I want to go to that shop!!!

This looks like such fun. We need to get orders back to CA so I can tag along with you to these get-togethers.

“I got the wine drinking gene”! brilliant! that can also help with the crafting gene…..I’m just saying.
I love the stationary and that IS crafty…..not everyone needs to cross stitch or do needle point to make something pretty!

I want to go to there!

Glad you had a good time. Love your crafty efforts. :)

  4. MJ says:

I’d like to say our crafts were the sparkliest of them all!! :) It was so fun meeting you and chatting it up! Can’t wait for the next craft night…

  5. Kelly says:

Ha ha! As another person at the “remedial” table, know that I’d also gone to Michael’s just that afternoon, too. (And didn’t even do my own craft.) It WAS fun. And I was inspired enough by the real crafters to try harder next time. That said, your cards look great!

  6. Lisa says:

Ha, I should have been at the remedial table too–I had nothing more than pompoms and glue. It was so nice to meet you–I’ll have to check out your real estate recommendations!

  7. Jules says:

Is there room at the remidial table for me? Because, I don’t know if anyone noticed, but the girl co-hosting the party didn’t bring a craft…

I joked to my husband that I would be “crafting my personality” and hoping by the night was over I would be less socially awkward. ;)

Thank you so much for coming, JJ!
