I Can't Sit Still

I don't know about you, but sometimes I get so excited about something new that I want to do ALL THE THINGS and do them RIGHT NOW! But I'm also in a season where I realize that slowing down and taking a breather is a good thing. It's Spring and the sun is shining here in Southern California...I need to remind myself to soak it in and experience renewal rather than just relish in the rush of daily life.

I PUT SOME NEW SHOES ON…

On Saturday morning, I woke up and realized I was running really ahead of the game and that I didn’t have much to do before my partay. I ran to the grocery store in the morning, prepped some of the dishes, and had the table set early. There were hours before I had to get ready, so I decided to step out and run to Off Broadway to look for some ankle boots. I’d noticed the night before that mine needed to be tossed and with cooler temps coming (or so I thought, WHY ARE YOU SO DAMN HOT, SOCAL?), I wanted to be prepared.

I walked in and found a pair on sale that fit and looked great within minutes. IMPULSE SHOPPING FTW!

I also found another cute pair of flats that caught my eye. I’m not really a shoe fiend and tend to buy shoes that I can wear versatilely, but these were just too cute to pass by. And I knew they’d match the dress I had planned to wear, so I snatched them up.

Before my guests arrived, I took a look at myself and realized I was pretty pulled together. I didn’t look like I was trying to hard, but I could tell I’d made an effort. I pushed myself out of my jeans and a top comfort zone and I liked what I saw. And because of these flippin cute shoes, I felt finished, too. I was proud of myself. And I liked that my shoes felt like they were made of pony. Yes, I realize I’m slightly odd.

Since Saturday, I’ve worn the shoes twice more.

As Paolo Nutini would say:

Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody’s smiling,
It’s so inviting,

My friend Abby encourages us each Wednesday to “dress for the day you want to have, not the day that’s trying to have you.” I’m linking up with her, because with these shoes, I felt like the best version of myself on Saturday night! Also linking up with Lindsey for WIWW!

  1. If it makes you feel any better–pony hair isn’t made from ponies, it’s cow leather with the hair still on, that’s all :)

    • Oh, thank goodness! As I continued to pet my shoes over and over again the other night, I began to get worried. ;-)

  2. Cool shoes…though not sure the fans of SMU would appreciate the pony hair. Pony up, baby!

  3. They look more like zebra shoes to me. :)

Love that Paolo Nutini song! Started singing it as soon as I read the title to this post.

  4. new shoes make all the difference. especially when they are ‘fun’ and out of the box. I love shoes in all brands, colors and textures. hearing people love their shoes makes me equally happy. weird I know.

  5. I’m not a shoe person either but lately, I’ve found myself drawn to cute shoes. WHAT IS GOING ON!?!?

And those, my friend, are cute. I would have bought them even if they were made out of ponies.

(Not really. But it sounds good, yes?)

  6. the shoes are boss and so are you! i love that you stepped out of your comfort zone and were rewarded! xoxo

  7. Adore!!!!! That color with those shoes is epic. (i want to see the whole outfit)

Love that you did this, seriously, fills my heart to the BRIM.

  8. I love the quote by Abby! And YAHOOOOO for fun shoes that make the outfit!
